Setting Today's Intention
"So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31)
What have you set your intention on for this day? What is your highest goal and aspiration?
Many people move into the day unconsciously. They are the walking dead who hope only to get through today's roles and responsibilities without undue stress or challenge. Others set their aspiration towards pleasure. They have organized their day to follow the paths and impulses they believe will bring them happiness.
But I'm thankful that early in my Christian walk, I was taught to set each day’s intention on glorifying God in all things. What does that mean? It means deciding to prioritize blessing Him and others through today's activities and responsibilities.
I'm under no illusion that I have missed the mark on this high calling for both short and long stretches of my life. But having experienced the outcomes that come from living for God's glory vs my own happiness, I've learned a valuable lesson:
If you organize your day around doing what makes you happy, you'll never be satisfied and others will suffer.
But if you aim to glorify God and bless others in creative, thoughtful, gracious, and loving ways, not only will you bless God and bring life to others, you'll receive joy and satisfaction as a result.
Today, set your intention to glorify God in all things.
